AMERICAN SUMMER
Simple sweeping rooflines and clearly articulated horizontal elements ground an unpretentious and elegant house to its country landscape. A custom oversized door with an 18th century leaded glass window welcomes you into an elliptical foyer with a domed ceiling. The subtle curves of the foyer unify adjacent spaces and frame a south view toward extensive gardens. High ceilings and abundant light create an ideal setting for a modern informal lifestyle.
Geo-thermal heating/cooling systems, stone sourced from the property, and passive solar design elements, are some environmentally aware features that minimize the carbon footprint of this 7,000 square foot house. Interior spaces flow seamlessly outdoors onto terraces and an exquisitely landscaped property. A shallow toddler’s pool, which mimics a rock spring, appears to supply the larger pool’s water. An adjacent rock garden features a re- circulating stream, creating soothing sounds of running water. Salvaged architectural artifacts give unique character to a hot tub with a waterfall and a wall fountain built with an early 19th century copper lion’s head.
Joyful interaction between indoor and outdoor living give this sophisticated house a laid back ambiance throughout the year. Michele is delighted to have provided the interior design for this published residence.
