Geothermal systems make use of the earth’s stable temperature by accessing it with a long loop of pipes buried underground. Throughout the year water circulates in the loop, providing geothermal heating, cooling, and hot water at remarkably high efficiencies. Traditional heating and cooling systems are inefficient compared to geothermal.

Geothermal heating and cooling is the most cost-effective, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly way to heat and cool your home or business today. This space conditioning system can save you up to 70% on your utility bill, and it usually pays for itself in just a few years.

When it comes to geothermal designs, Riverside Design and Build, LLC is the go-to company. Modern Shingle Transformation and American Summer are two examples of our outstanding work that incorporated Geothermal heating and cooling systems.

Ready to transition out of their stylish loft and raise a family in a fresh country setting, a young couple hired Riverside Design and Build, LLC. We secured a bucolic level property with a sizable existing ranch house. The clients share our dedication to sustainable living and we recycled the existing foundation and first-floor deck into the renovation. An ordinary brick ranch transformed into a charming two-story shingle-style house. We incorporated a geothermal heating and cooling system as well as passive solar features such as deep eaves and shade from the summer sun.

A double vaulted foyer leads to an open loft-like plan that embraces the family’s informal lifestyle. Eschewing the need for a living room, the clients asked for an open entertaining space instead. Where many would have located a traditional living room, we built a large space with a long bar, fireplace, and reinforced the ground floor to accommodate the weight of a billiard table. Myriad custom-designed features create a distinctive home beautifully designed to enhance a growing family’s way of life. The geothermal system has recouped its cost twice and provides lasting value to this beautiful design.

Simple sweeping rooflines and clearly articulated horizontal elements ground an unpretentious and elegant house to its country landscape. A custom oversized door with an 18th century leaded glass window welcomes you into an elliptical foyer with a domed ceiling. The subtle curves of the foyer unify adjacent spaces and frame a south view toward extensive gardens. High ceilings and abundant light create an ideal setting for a modern informal lifestyle.

Geothermal heating/cooling systems, stone sourced from the property, and passive solar design elements, are some environmentally aware features that minimize the carbon footprint of this 7,000 square foot house. Interior spaces flow seamlessly outdoors onto terraces and an exquisitely landscaped property. A shallow toddler’s pool, which mimics a rock spring, appears to supply the larger pool’s water. An adjacent rock garden features a recirculating stream, creating soothing sounds of running water. Salvaged architectural artifacts give a unique character to a hot tub with a waterfall and a wall fountain built with an early 19th-century copper lion’s head.

Joyful interaction between indoor and outdoor living gives this sophisticated house a laid-back ambiance throughout the year. Michele is delighted to have provided the interior design for this published residence. The geothermal system in this home has paid for itself three times in the twenty-two years it has been operating.
